When it comes to updating your home, there are many different ways to go about it. You may want to renovate your entire home or just a few walls. Accent walls have become very popular in the recent past. But textured walls look equally good. They bring a sense of cohesiveness to the room. With the right wall texture, you can create an inviting atmosphere that adds character and elegance to your space.
Wall textures give depth and dimension to the wall and the 3D effect helps in hiding any existing flaws in the wall. Wall textures not only provide a luxurious and graceful look, but they also have a long-life span and don’t require any extra effort to care for them.
Here is a list of Wall Textures from our ace interior designer Ms. Nazish (B.F.A), you can totally go for this year:
Popcorn Wall Texture
This texture gets its name from its appearance. Prepared with a mixture of mud and Styrofoam it gives a puffy popcorn-like texture to the wall and is best suited for living rooms and bedrooms. They are stylish, trendy and definitely give an extra edge to the overall appearance of the room. However, we do have to point out that it is a bit difficult to apply and remove. If you are looking for something long-lasting, this texture is something you should consider.
Comb Wall Texture
Comb wall texture is so called because of its distinctive pattern which resembles the markings made from a comb. Created with the help of a toothed trowel, popular comb wall textures involve concentric circles or overlapping rainbows. This wall texture is perfect if you want to go for vintage-style room decor.
Orange Peel Texture
Anyone who has seen an orange can easily understand what the texture is going to look like. As the name suggests it looks like the rind of an orange peel. It has a pitted or dimpled texture. In case you are going for a classic look, the orange peel texture is the one for you. It gives a very sophisticated look without overpowering the other elements in the room. This look can be used anywhere from your living room to your bedroom and even your study room. Orange Peel textured walls are very popular in office interiors too.
Knockdown Texture
Whenever you are reading about wall textures, you will always find that knockdown texture follows the orange peel texture. This is because they are pretty similar in application. Knockdown texture has an additional step at the end where you have to knock off or smoothen the bumps of the mud on the wall to give it a more polished look. This texture is perfect if you want to go for a contemporary look. Another additional benefit of knockdown texture is that it helps in soundproofing the room. Also, it is useful in hiding any imperfections in the wall. It gives more of a hand-painted stucco look rather than a trowelled one.
Slap Brush Texture
This technique is also called ‘Stomp Brush’ or ‘Crow’s Foot’. It is created by using a fan brush and slapping the bristles onto the surface to create various designs. It is a free-hand technique and you can’t replicate the exact design as the bristles of the fan brush can be of different sizes. Slap Brush textured wall looks great with an accent wall.
Slap Brush Knockdown Texture
Moving on we have a Slap Brush Knockdown textured wall. As you may have guessed it is a combination of the two above-mentioned techniques. This look is achieved by starting with a section of the wall with a slap brush texture and then smoothening or knocking off the bumps with a drywall knife. Repeat it for the whole wall and you have got yourself a stunner. This texture is best suited for Mediterranean-style décor.
Venetian Plaster Finish
Looking forward to adding some extra depth and dimension to the décor. Your search ends here. This age-old technique provides an exclusive yet elegant look that you have always dreamt of. It can be achieved by using lime or marble dust with plaster and applying it with a spatula. This type of wall texture can be often seen in museums and old buildings. However, the technique has evolved since then and now it is done with a steel trowel. The style may be old but it still holds its place and is often found coupled with modern and minimalistic décor.
Sand Swirl
The sand Swirl technique gives a unique character to the wall. It is visually more appealing as compared to other textures. As per your preference, different styles and patterns can be achieved. You can opt for ordered swirls or random swirls as per your preference. There are different techniques to achieve this look. It can be done with actual sand or sponges or brushes and perlite.
These are just some of the popular wall textures that can transform your home interior. There are many other options and we do understand it may get a little overwhelming for a layman while going through all these technical terms.
