Lighting Trends for the year 2023

Lighting is no longer just a necessity but an essential element of the interior design of a house/office. It is a major contributing factor that can make or break the design. Also, lighting is no longer just about aesthetics, it is the art of creating an experience that is tailored to suit your objectives. In 2023, when it comes to lighting, property owners will be looking to combine practicality with aesthetics to create a more pleasing atmosphere. In short, people now want lights not only to be stylish but also to provide ample illumination while having utility. The good news is that with the advancement of technology, it is possible to create lighting designs that not only look good but also serve the purpose.

Like any other element of interior designing, lighting also depends upon a number of factors such as the layout of the room, utility, personal style, type of furniture, colour of walls and type of lighting. Needless to say, the lighting in your dining room is going to be different from your bathroom which in turn is going to be different from your kitchen. In case you are looking to upgrade the lighting in your office space, it is going to be an entirely different scenario. But not to worry, you can go through our projects at Elevation Interior, Thane and get an overview of what you want to do. The best thing about being in the 21st century is nothing is a dead trend. People are now more interested in creating their own unique space rather than following some so-called trend. At Elevation Interior, we genuinely believe that if you are original, the space will speak for itself. Before we move further, first let us understand the basics of lighting.

Natural Lighting

Natural lighting plays an important role when it comes to designing an interior for any space. It is advisable to have ample natural light in your home or office, not only for aesthetic purposes but also for health reasons. Being cramped in the flats and not getting enough sunlight has had an adverse effect on our bodies. Also, ample sunlight means, less electricity bill, who doesn’t like that? Right? In case you are constructing your own house, please make sure that there are enough windows and doors to let sunlight enter your home.

But many times, especially, in big cities we buy already constructed flats. We can’t change the direction of the windows in this case, but before making a huge investment and purchasing the flat, do visit the site and make sure that the direction of the windows or doors is such that sunlight makes its way into your house.

Now, talking about the interiors, pair your windows with sheer and block curtains. This way sunlight can enter your home to provide you with a warm and cozy ambience and you can also maintain your privacy. Understanding how much natural light you get in your apartment helps in deciding the requirement for artificial lighting.

Artificial Lighting

The other type of lighting is artificial lighting. We obviously need a source of light at dusk or even to supplement when there is not enough natural light. It is natural to be drawn towards a brightly lit room rather than a dull and gloomy room. Artificial lighting has grown in its design, shape and utility over the years. Artificial lighting is further characterized into three types

Ambient Lighting

Also known as ‘General Lighting’, is the simplest form of lighting that is used to illuminate the room and provide sufficient lighting based on functionality. These are the basic lights that every household has. Earlier, when there was no or relatively negligible interior designing, people used Tube lights or CFL bulbs for this. However, LED panels have replaced these old forms of lighting in newly designed homes/offices. These lights are meant to create illumination without giving out uncomfortable glare.

Task Lighting

As the name suggests, Task Lighting is done to focus on a particular space for a particular purpose. For example, an extra light on the study table to read or a table lamp on the side table or on the overhead panel of the kitchen for cooking or on the dressing table to assist you in getting ready. The job is to make your day-to-day activities easy and comfortable. Keep a note that task lights are different from ambient lights. Whereas ambient lights are meant to illuminate the entire room, task lights are there for a specific purpose. Task lights are not meant to replace ambient lights but to supplement them.

Accent Lighting

Next on the list is ‘Accent Lighting’. This type of lighting is used when you want to highlight a particular area. This lighting has the capability to make that area the centre of attraction. These lightings complement very well with both indoor and outdoor designs. They come in many shapes and sizes and can totally change your home/office space into a stunner. The options for accent lights are unlimited nowadays, starting from wall lights, sconces, track lights, and pendant lights to button lights. The choice is unimaginable.

Keep in mind that not every style of lighting goes with every space. Some rooms require cold lights while others require warm lights. Then there are concerns about creating synergy in the overall look of the space.
